Selected British literature from the Middle Ages to the end of the eighteenth century. Literature courses further the ability to understand literary devices and language; to appreciate a text and its socio-cultural and historical contexts; to evaluate a text, whether fiction or non-fiction, for its literal and figurative meanings; and to synthesize and communicate the understanding of a text to others. Further, literature enriches understanding of and appreciation for the diversity of human experience.
